(45) Flying fish

They are called “koinobori” (鯉幟), literally “carp-streamer” and they appear in homes and in some public places in Japan, a few days before May 5th; this is Children’s Day (actually Boys’ Day) and a national holiday. The carp is a symbol for a strong and healthy boy since, according to legend, it swims against the current and becomes a dragon.
