(151) Tengu 3: Geta

Besides their long nose, another trademark of the tengu are their shoes; actually, their clogs. They are a variation of the classic Japanese wooden clogs called “geta” (下駄) which in the case of tengu have only one, very high “blade” or “tooth” in their soles; these are called “tengu geta” (天狗下駄) or “ippon/ba geta”  (一本 /歯下駄) and as one can see, they make walking very hard, even for a supernatural creature like the tengu. This picture is also from Shimokitazawa Tengu festival in Tokyo.
