(247) This is how spring smells


My mother in law came excited to show me some weird green flowers she was given by a neighbor: their name is “fuki no tou” (蕗の薹) –my dictionary says their English name is “Butterbur sprouts”- and they are eaten battered and deep fried, tempura fashion. “Smell it, smell it” she said, “It is the smell of spring”. Now, if only the weather could agree…
