(577) Sannosai in Ginza #1

The big festival of the Hie Jinja (日枝神社) Shinto shrine, and one of the three biggest festivals of old Edo and new Tokyo was held last week (it is regularly held on even-numbered years); contrary to other Matsuri, the Sannosai (山王祭) is basically a long procession of people in various period costumes parading through a big part of central Tokyo. We caught it in the Ginza; seeing miko (巫女) priestesses walking around the area’s expensive stores was a little odd.
