(659) In Tsukishima (3)

The main reason most people come to Tsukishima is to walk around the main shopping street, Nishi-Naka Dori (西中通り) which is famous for the dozens or restaurants serving monja-yaki  (もんじゃ焼き), a savory pancake containing any ingredient you can imagine.

For various reasons, some monja-yaki restaurants are more famous than others so people must wait for some time outside until a table opens up…

The tables, BTW, are in essence hot-plates so people can fry their monja-yaki themselves –this is a big part of the fun of monja.

(For a bigger version of this picture both in color and black and white, check my "Japan Arekore" set on Flickr –you can also find there a whole album with pictures from that day.)
