(782) Of seafood

The "Marutomi Suisan" (丸富水産) are a small izakaya chain specializing in seafood; they are neither the best nor the cheapest in Tokyo but their combination of price, quality and atmosphere is among the best I've seen. This one is in Meguro (目黒) in Shinagawa (品川) Ward, in an alley very close to the JR station.

The decor is among the simplest you can find but it works...

...and the variety of the seafood is wide enough so you won't get bored.

We tried a soup with a shellfish called shiro-gai (白貝 -I have no idea how it's called in English)...

...saba (サバ/鯖) i.e. mackerel grilled with miso...

...a sashimi assortment (yes, they are the famous raw fish that are supposedly the basis of Japanese diet -no they aren't)...

...green tofu (tofu flavored with eda-mame/枝豆 soy beans)...

...and three more kinds of shellfish: horned turban or sazae (サザエ/栄螺) and scallop or hotate (ホタテ/帆立貝)...

...which you grill yourself on your table -here, together with the third one, a clam or hamaguri (ハマグリ/蛤).

For those who can't separate the meat from the shell, the waiters are happy to help.
