(783) And some (judo) history


It's called Eishoji (永昌寺) and it's a small temple in the Shitaya (下谷) area, a little after Ueno as soon as you exit the Inaricho (稲荷町) subway station. 


Most people don't even notice it but when you cross its side gate, the one on the Asakusa Dori (浅草通り) avenue...


...you see the monument stating that in 1882, the first judo school by the art's founder, Jigoro Kano was hosted -it was the temple's study back then with a space of just 12-tatami/213 square feet. They didn't need more since the first judo group was 9 people!
