If an average wine has managed to make a big deal every year when its new vintage hits the shops, why not rice too -especially in a country that consumes it in such huge quantities? Our neighborhood super-market welcomes the new crop with 5-kilo (11 pound) bags and various typical accompaniments like curry and nori seaweed.
